Mr. Jayapal: an example of children moulding children

Jayapal is a final-year CRM member from Perumbakkam, Chennai — one of the most densely populated slum areas where vulnerability is high. He was among the first children to be identified and supported by the Child Rights Movement (CRM).

Coming from a family of three, Jayapal lost his father early. His mother, a domestic worker, is the sole earner for the family. Despite these hardships, both Jayapal and his sister excel in academics and extracurricular activities. Jayapal is also a kabaddi champion.

As a CRM member, Jayapal actively participated in all the programs. He especially valued leadership and personality development trainings. These shaped his self-confidence and purpose. He expresses that he will deeply miss CRM after graduating this year.

Now, Jayapal is determined to give back. He is building and strengthening CRM groups in his area. Additionally, he has started kabaddi coaching for local children, believing that sports is a powerful deterrent to substance abuse and a tool for youth empowerment.

"I want my brothers and sisters to understand how powerful sports can be for change." – Jayapal
